Defining Value: Economic Benefit and/or Qualitative Benefit, A Case Study

At the Claremont University Consortium, value has been approached in 2 ways: (a) providing qualitative value to academic or business services via a collaboration and/or (b) providing the service or endeavor at a lesser cost than could be achieved if acting alone or with another supplier. The true ‘sweet spot’ is to accomplish both — having a better quality endeavor and under a more competitive (less expensive per unit) economic model. BUT — how do you document either of these values to members participating in the collaboration? This session presents the ‘value proposition’ concept and using actual case study data, presents examples of both valuation propositions PLUS (and most importantly) how these calculations were performed and documented.

How might consortia help prepare institutions for the shifting paradigm? In this highly interactive session, Jeff Borden will share insights into the future of learning, education and technology, and will facilitate shared discussion focusing on imminent challenges and potential responses.

Transnational Consortia: Responding to the Challenge of a Global Higher Education

More than ever before, college education is expected to prepare graduates for global leadership, to provide transnational education experiences, and to reflect global interest in their mission statements. The changing college environment has definite implications for college management and leadership. A briefing on major developments in global higher education followed by an interactive discussion will explore how global consortia could and should respond to emerging opportunities presented by the growing global college environment, as well as key challenges for collective consideration.
